A Lithuanian road transport operator must demonstrate sufficient financial standing rather than maintain a fixed minimum registered share capital of EUR 9,000. Under Regulation (EC) No 1071/2009, operators using vehicles or vehicle combinations exceeding 3.5 tonnes must generally demonstrate at least EUR 9,000 for the first vehicle and EUR 5,000 for each additional vehicle exceeding 3.5 tonnes. These amounts represent financial standing requirements and must be maintained throughout the operator’s licensed activities. They should not be confused with the statutory minimum share capital required to establish a Lithuanian UAB.

Lithuanian transport operators must satisfy the financial standing requirements established by Regulation (EC) No 1071/2009 and the applicable Lithuanian legislation. Financial standing is generally assessed using the undertaking’s own capital and financial statements. Increasing registered share capital may be one way to strengthen the company’s financial position, but it is not automatically required to obtain a transport licence. Company in Lithuania UAB can assist with assessing financial standing requirements, preparing supporting documentation and arranging corporate capital changes where necessary.

This requirement does not generally apply to operators using such vehicles exclusively for domestic freight transport within Lithuania or to qualifying own-account transport. From 1 July 2026, applicable international commercial freight operations involving these vehicles are also subject to driving and rest time requirements and mandatory second-generation smart tachographs (G2V2), subject to statutory exemptions.
