Companies registered under the ordinary Lithuanian VAT regime generally file monthly VAT returns, including nil returns where applicable. Eligible companies may use an approved quarterly tax period. Different reporting rules apply to companies registered under the small business scheme (SVS).

A Lithuanian company generally must register for VAT if its consideration from VAT-taxable supplies in Lithuania exceeds EUR 45,000 in the current or preceding calendar year. VAT registration may also be required below this threshold, including for certain cross-border transactions. VAT registration is also generally required where the value, excluding VAT, of goods acquired from VAT-registered suppliers, or suppliers required to be VAT-registered, in other EU Member States and transported to Lithuania exceeds EUR 14,000 in the current or preceding calendar year, subject to statutory exceptions.
